Anthrax and producer Jay Ruston have released clips of their recent studio work for their upcoming eleventh studio album.
Blabbermouth reported that metal band Anthrax have released new videos of the band recording material at a studio in Los Angeles. Recording their eleventh studio album with producer Jay Ruston, Anthrax has big shoes to fill following the success of 2011’s Grammy-nominated Worship Music.
Metal Injection reviewed Worship Music, stating, “The band have retraced their steps to a position of greatest strength, and from here they will forge a new path into the future… hopefully with Joey Belladonna at the helm.”
Anthrax, which consists of guitarists Scott Ian and Jon Donais, vocalist Joey Belladonna, bassist Frank Bello, and drummer Charlie Benante, have been writing and recording for the last few months, and plan to release their currently unnamed album during the summer, under Megaforce Records.
The video released by the band feature the band talking about and recording rhythm tracks for the new album. The band also released a 20-second video of drummer Charlie Benante recording a new drum track.
Benante spoke with The Metal Voice about the upcoming album,
“For this new album, I’ve been lucky enough to draw from the ‘Worship Music’ experience and really build on that. So these newer tunes are just… Man, if that record was, like… How can I put this? If that was like Led Zeppelin IV, then this one is definitely gonna be like Physical Graffiti. The reason why I said that is because have such an abundance of songs. ‘Physical Graffiti’ was a double record. We have enough material to have a double record at this point too.”
The upcoming album is Anthrax’s first release since September of last year, when the band released a live-in-concert DVD called Chile On Hell, which was filmed in Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile. The concert was recorded live on May 10th, 2013, and features songs from across the band’s catalogue.
Recently, metal band Motor Sister announced that members of Anthrax would be featured on their upcoming album Ride, which is set to be released in March. Motor Sister, which started as a jam-band for Scott Ian’s 50th birthday party, became a new band with Jim Wilson and Joey Vera.
Members of Anthrax also announced the formation of another band, a super-group called Metal Allegiance. The band consists of members of Anthrax, ex-members of Pantera, members of Testament, Exodus, and more.
In December, it was announced that Anthrax will be on the Game of Thrones mixtape for season five, as members of Anthrax and a producer of the show are mutual fans of each other.
Anthrax’s upcoming album is due out in the summer, and in the meantime you can catch the band on the Game of Thrones mixtape, or live on their recently released DVD Chile on Hell.
