Jamie Hewlett Confirms Gorillaz Will Release A New Album

Gorillaz co-creator, Jamie Hewlett has confirmed that the Gorillaz will release a new album. The news was revealed via Instagram when Hewlett responded to inquires from curious fans.

“Yes Gorillaz Returns” is all that Hewlett said on the matter of the new album. Fans began to post questions to Hewlett’s Instagram after he put up photos of Gorillaz members Noodle, Murdoc, and Russle. As a result of this spur of the moment announcement, there is no specifics on title or release date as of now. The Gorillaz last album, The Fall, was released in 2011. Since then, there has been a great deal of speculation on whether or not Gorillaz would release another album. Even co-creator Damon Albarn left fans uncertain when he announced in late 2014 that a Groillaz reunion was “possible”.

The animated musical group, was a side project created by Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn. Albarn, who is known for his involvement in Blur has taken on some other projects that seem to have him busy. This include his new project co-writing the stage musical, Alice In Wonderland. Also, last year Albarn released his first solo album, Everyday Robots and toured in support of the album.

While there are not official details, Albarn has mentioned in the past that a new album would probably surface in 2016. Any additional news and updates about the Gorillaz can be found on the group’s official website.
