Brian Eno’s influence stretches across many musical boundaries. From indie to punk to rock, his musical and production style can be felt in many recording artists’ music today. The latest to tip their hat to Eno is PCPC of Parquet Courts fame and Owen Pallett.
Parquet Courts has gone into a variety of semi-side projects as of late, with the recent release of a new video for “Pretty Machines” being the most recent endeavor. Now, some of their own have recently performed in concert with few other musicians to mark the fortieth anniversary of Brian Eno’s fantastic Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) record. PCPC took to the stage in Cologne, Germany to cover the title track off of the 1974 album with great effort and effect. While only slightly more up tempo than the original, PCPC’s cover is a faithful rendition of the original classic, even going as far as matching the vocal harmonies to such a successful degree that Eno himself would have been blown away. The concert was part of a festival in Germany in which several artists including PCPC were asked to take the stage and perform various tracks off of Brian Eno’s record.
PCPC is a supergroup composed of members of both Parquet Courts and PC Worship. Owen Pallett recently completed work on his record, In Conflict, back in June. PCPC also performed a version of “The Fat Lady Of Limbourg,” another track off off Taking Tiger Mountain.
