Singer-songwriter Laura Marling has released a new song called “False Hope,” a track that will be included on her forthcoming album, Short Movie.
Short Movie will be released March 24 via Ribbon Music. It’s her fifth album in seven years, though she’s only 24 years old. She describes the album as a kind of musical experiment, according to Consequence of Sound.
“False Hope” is a dark and melancholy track that opens with the line “Is it still okay that I don’t know how to be alone?” It has a very intense sound throughout, driven by electric guitar, but it’s not as mellow as one might expect from the lyrical content. You can listen to the track below.
Marling, along with numerous other artists, collaborated with Beck on his Song Reader in 2014. She also played at Conor Oberst’s holiday show, with Natalie Merchant and others.
