Metal Supergroup Motor Sister Featuring Members of Anthrax and Mother Superior Announce New Album Ride for March 2015 Release

What initially started as a jam band to play at Scott Ian’s 50th birthday party has blossomed into a full-fledged rock ‘n’ roll record with the release of Motor Sister’s Ride on March 10th.

According to a press release from Metal Blade records, the impetus came from Ian’s wife Pearl Aday, who provides backing vocals for the band. Since she and her husband were such huge fans of Mother Superior, Aday suggested that they invite Jim Wilson over to play some of his songs for Ian’s 50th birthday party. Ian soon enlisted Joey Vera (Fates Warning/Armored Saint) and John Tempesta (White Zombie, The Cult) to form a rhythm section for the makeshift band.

The results were so inspiring, that Ian soon called Jay Ruston to produce the project that became Motor Sister, named after one of Wilson’s songs. As Ian recalls:

“He said, ‘Yeah, we can make the record in two days and we can make it sound really good.’ So that’s what we did. A week and a half later, we made the record in LA over a two day period. We recorded the whole thing live in the studio and the set-up was at my house.”

After releasing eight albums with Mother Superior in the 90s and 2000s, Wilson was eager to revisit some of the songs that he hadn’t played in almost a decade.

“I definitely didn’t need any arm-twisting. I was totally flattered and thought it was a great idea. I figured it would be fun and it was a great opportunity for a new chapter to be established in order to move forward.”

This is hardly the first supergroup or pet project that Ian has attached himself to, proving to be a loyal fanboy of counter cultural art in terms of music and television. This past May, Anthrax contributed a track to the Dio tribute album Ronnie James Dio–This Is Your Life, and Anthrax has also been attached to the forthcoming Catch the Throne mixtape for the HBO hit Game of Thrones. Ian also participated in Metal Alligiance, which featured members of Anthrax, Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth, Exodus and Dream Theatre among others.
