Qello, a video streaming service specifically for music lovers, has added Devo’s Butch Devo and the Sundance Gig live performance to its collection of concerts and music documentaries.
The performance is preceded by General Boyd, who begins the show sitting in what looks like a study. He proceeds to give the audience tips for the night, including how to dress, how to act and what to look out for at the concert.
The performance is dated January 26, 1996, at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Cheech Marin acted as “Master of Ceremonies” and the members of Devo were dressed in black-and-white striped prison jumpsuits. This show was actually a reunion show for Devo, and it runs approximately an hour in length.
As usual, the new wave band is eccentric and remains full of energy throughout the appearance. There is plenty of dancing, jumping and running around the stage. Lead vocalist Mark Mothersbaugh and his bandmates also show off their musical craftsmanship throughout the concert with solos and instrumental breaks. They play mostly their own music, but also put their own twist on the Rolling Stones hit “Satisfaction.”
