Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band from Leeds, who formed in 2000 under the name Parva. They released one studio album titled, 22, in 2003 before renaming the band to Kaiser Chiefs. The band consist of lead vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick Barnes and since 2013, drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced founding drummer Nick Hodgson who left the band in late 2012.
The band was primarily inspired by new wave and punk rock music of the late 1970s and 1980s. In total they have released five original studio albums. Their first album, Employment (2005), received critical and commercial success, and sold over three million copies. The album won the band three Brit Awards including, Best British Group, an NME award for Best Album, and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.
Their UK hit singles include their number nine hit “I Predict A Riot,” and their number one hit “Ruby,” which has sold over 461,000 copies from their platinum album, Yours Truly, Angry Mob. They also have two Top 20 singles “The Angry Mob” and “Everything Is Average Nowadays.” In 2008, they had a UK number five hit with their track “Never Miss a Beat.” In total, the band has sold over 1.1 million singles. Their latest top 40 single is titled, “Coming Home,” which hit number 31. Their latest album, Education, Education, Education, & War, was released last year and hit number one in the albums chart.
