In the trend of bands reuniting for huge music festivals, Drive Like Jehu can now be added by announcing that they will be playing one of the biggest festivals of the year, Coachella 2015.
According to Brooklyn Vegan, the band first reunited in August to play a show in San Diego, but was it supposed to be a onetime event. Well now that the first official Coachella 2015 lineup has been released and guess who is on it? Yep, you guessed correctly, Drive Like Jehu.
The post-hardcore and alternative band first united in 1990 after rhythm guitarist Rick Froberg and lead guitarist John Reis’s band Pitchfork broke up. Known for helping turn hardcore punk into emo, Drive Like Jehu released two successful albums, 1991’s Drive Like Jehu and 1994’s Yank Crime, before disbanding in 1995.
Reis who was a member of both Rocket From the Crypt and Drive Like Jehu, who both signed to Interscope Records in 1994, eventually left to concentrate more on Rocket From the Crypt.
Drummer Mark Trombino who had also engineered and mixed for Drive Like Jehu went on to have a successful recording career, producing albums for Blink-182 and Jimmy Eats World while bassist Mike Kennedy left music completely to be a chemist.
You can catch members of Drive Like Jehu touring with their other bands including John Reis with Blind Shake and Rick Froberg who just played with his band Obits at the Acheron on New Year’s Eve.
