The Stone Foxes, a rock and roll band out of sunny San Francisco, are employing ingenuity to release their fourth album. The first Friday of every month will see a newly released song. After one year, their unique mission will be complete, and Twelve Spells will be released, come August of this year.

Aaron Mort, along with brothers Spence and Shannon Koehler formed the group in 2005 and have since released three albums through Kaleidoscopic Wondersound Records. They have opened for Cage the Elephant and The Black Keys, and have been featured on television shows such as Shameless and Sons of Anarchy.

Their latest release in their yearlong odyssey is called “Jericho”. The song’s title refers to a repeating metaphor that compares a woman whom the lead singer’s character in the song knows, and the walls of the ancient city. Her walls will crumble, just as the walls of Jericho. It’s a biting tune, complete with some excellent tremolo guitars and hard hitting piano and back up chorus refrains. It’s a crackling firework of a tune, and simultaneously evokes Jack White and Buddy Guy. It’ll make you want to hit the floorboards and dig in with your boot heels, and if you listen closely enough, you may even conjure up a similar situation to the one that Shannon belts about: someone who you know who has been living a facade, at the expense of others, that is destined for destruction.

The album, which is so far composed of five songs, is shaping up to be formidable. It’s force is well applied and streamlined. “Locomotion”, is a hard hitting home run of blues rock that encourages us to believe that the genre still has a lot of room to grow and evolve with our times. Whats also notable is that a band like this is recording out of San Francisco, instead of somewhere in the south, say Nashville or Austin. We look forward to the February Friday release with zeal! Rock on!
