Dengue Fever Release New Video For “No Sudden Moves” And Announce Winter 2015 Tour Dates

The cultural chasm crossers who meld psychedelic rock with Cambodian pop and rap styles have released and equally unique video and announced many chances to see their sextet simmer down!

The lead singer, who sings mostly in Khmer except for some English on their third album, has landed herself in jail in this video, where she faces community service, bonding with her fellow inmates, and phone conversations that culminate in a ritualistic marriage in this original narrative. As ever, their music in the track is spirited and highly melodic, with a distinctly melodic touch, and the expressions that Nimol adapts throughout the video are great. Some seem to mock the stereotypical performing video artist face, like the wondering eyebrows and lusty looks, and others are a more blatant rip, such as during the rap sequence as we get the close up of her rapping with her and Erin Hayes and Anna Belknap in the background.

The song is a single off of their next album, The Deepest Lake, which will be available on January 27th. Also in support of the new album is a nice sized tour of the West Coast over the next months. Check those dates out below.

The band, which was formed in 2001 by Ethan Holtzman and his brother Zac, after Ethan took a trip to Cambodia and became enamored with it’s music and culture. They looked around for someone who could sing in Khmer, and they eventually discovered Nimol singing in a karaoke joint in Long Beach. They released a self-titled album that was largely composed of reimagined 1960s Cambodian rock tunes by artists such as Pan Ron and Ros Serey Sothea. They have toured in Cambodia. Their third album, Venus On Earth was released by Real World Records, which was founded by Peter Gabriel.
