The English musician and songwriter started off 2015 by publicizing that she will be recording her Ninth album live. The recording will happen during a month long exhibition at London’s Somerset House from January 16th to February 16th.
The exhibition, titled Recording in Progress, will include a custom built studio for Harvey’s recording, and allow for the viewers to watch the recording and live mixing process through one-way glass.
“I want Recording in Progress to operate as if we’re an exhibition in a gallery,” said Harvey. “I hope visitors will be able to experience the flow and energy of the recording process.”
Viewers in small groups will each be allowed to listen and watch PJ Harvey, her band, producers and engineers work for 50 minutes. With Somerset House stating that each small group will “experience something different, depending on what point in its development a particular song has reached and which of its elements are mixed live”.
Tickets were available online, with cost of £15, with £12 concessions, But tickets sold out within hours of the announcement. More information on London’s Somerset House is also available online.

This 9th album, and now sold out exhibition, come on the heels of continued success and involvement in the music community. Harvey is well known worldwide for her 2011 album Let England Shake, and the winning of her second Mercury Music Prize. In August Harvey released a new song on Soundcloud called “Shaker Aamer” in support of a British Guantanamo Bay detention camp detainee with a focus on what Aamer endured through out a four-month hunger strike.
