Drummer Jimmy Chamberlain Says He will Record New Music

This week, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, best known for his work with Smashing Pumpkins, announced on social media that he is recording new music with his group, The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex.

The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex released their debut album “Life Begins Again” in 2005, with Sean Woolstenhulme on guitar and Adam Benjamin playing on keyboards, who have left the group to seek out other projects. “Life Begins Again” was a jazz record, and it brought Chamberlin back to his roots as a jazz drummer, when he was living in Chicago in the 1980’s before he joined Smashing Pumpkins, according to Alternative Nation.

The band’s debut album featured a series of guest appearances a well known vocalists, including: Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and his longtime collaborator Linda Strawberry, Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers, and Catherine Wheel’s Rob Dickinson. Then, the band went on hiatus for nearly three years, as the band members pursued other projects.

In the years since, the band has done a little bit here and there; but, they’ve been mostly quiet. An Alternative Nation article mentions that Chamberlin stated in 2013 that the group had written five or six songs, in recent years. But, at this time, we cannot independently verify if any of those songs will be appearing on the upcoming Jimmy Chamberlin Complex’s latest project. Additionally, there is no official word about whether or not Billy Corgan will be involved.

While concrete information about what fans can expect remains elusive, we can confirm that bassist/vocalist Billy Mohler, pianist Mike Garson, and guitarist Gannin Arnold, are returning to work with Chamberlin on this new music. And, Chamberlin tweeted that they will be joined by a very special guest – Frank Catalano, a Chicago-based saxophonist signed to Columbia Records. Chamberlin worked with Catalano on an EP called, “Love Supreme Collective”, which holds the top spot on iTunes’ Jazz charts, according to Alternative Nation.
