After a four-year absence from the studio, Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo, and Shay Haley – collectively known as N.E.R.D. – have reunited and recorded a new song, “Squeeze Me”.
This new N.E.R.D. song has already found a “home”, if you will, on an album. “Squeeze Me” will be included on the soundtrack of the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants movie, according to Consequence of Sound. The soundtrack album is titled, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water”, according to the group’s Audiomack page.
In an interview with Variety, Chad Hugo discussed the group’s vision for the song, stating: “We’re trying not to think too much in a cartoon sense, but more just like a psychedelic, otherworldy type of thing. If you want to draw a parallel, maybe think of what the Beatles did with Yellow Submarine.”

This relaxed yet seemingly happy Caribbean-esque release is N.E.R.D.’s first official track in four-years; however, the band has performed together onstage prior to this most recent reunion.
In November 2014, they reunited onstage Los Angeles’ Odd Future’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. At the Carnival, they chose to perform “Rockstar”, which is taken from their 2004 album, “Fly Or Die”.
If you would like to see how the filmmakers’ decide to place “Squeeze Me” within the movie, the American release date for “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” is February 6th, 2015.
