James Franco Announces New Album And Film Inspired By The Smiths Featuring Andy Rourke

James Franco is releasing an interesting new album and film dedicated to The Smiths.

Actor James Franco has been dipping his toes into the pool of the music industry for some time now, but his latest project is one that is on the verge of releasing a new record that is raising some eyebrows. The musical duo Daddy was started by Franco and a former art school classmate named Tim O’Keefe. Together, they are releasing a new record called Let Me Get What I Want, a tribute record inspired by the Smiths. As far as tribute records go, this particular record has a creative new angle to it. The songs themselves are songs based off of poems written by Franco that were inspired by the Smiths. Included with the songs are paintings by Franco and videos that tell a linear story when viewed together. In addition to all of these, the songs will feature Smiths bassist Andy Rourke contributing bass lines to every track on the record.

Let Me Get What I Want is due out sometime next year. Daddy used a portion of “This Charming Man” in a Gucci commercial that Franco himself directed. It offers a slight glimpse into how the record will turn out.
