In 2015, the East Coast is going to be home to a new country music festival, which was put together by the creators of Delaware’s Firefly Music Festival. The first Big Barrel Country music festival will take place on June 26-28th, 2015, at the Woodlands at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware. And, yes, that is the weekend after the fourth annual Firefly Music Festival.
Red Frog Events, the production team behind Firefly, have teamed up with Coachella producer Goldenvoice to make the Big Barrel festival possible, according to Billboard.
The headlining artists for Big Barrel are well known modern country singers: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Blake Shelton. Speaking of Blake Shelton, we should point out that the festival announcement comes on the heels of his fourth win as a coach on season seven of NBC’s The Voice. But, one of the factors that will set Big Barrel apart from other country festivals is that the organizers are not limiting the lineup to modern country artists. Instead, they are bringing in a range of artists that span a wide range of music including, classic and traditional country, bluegrass, Southern rock, and alternative country.
“Firefly, combined with its home at The Woodlands of Dover International Speedway, has established the East Coast’s standard when it comes to delivering a top-notch music festival,” Greg Bostrom, Director of Firefly and Big Barrel, said in a press release. “We’ll leverage the Firefly foundation and our collective backgrounds bringing preeminent music festivals to life to establish Big Barrel as the benchmark for country music experiences this side of the Mississippi River.”
So, who have the organizers assembled to make their mark on the inaugural festival aside from Underwood, Shelton, and Lambert?
With a list that reads like a résumé of who’s who in country music, festival goers can expect to see performances by modern country male crooners Jake Owen, Chris Young, and Gary Allen; Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd; classic/traditional country singer Merle Haggard and “Coal Miner’s Daughter” Loretta Lynn; newer artists like Dan + Shay, Kacey Musgraves, Cassadee Pope, and Jana Kramer; legendary country and gospel singers The Oak Ridge Boys, and the Del McCoury Band, an award winning bluegrass group, just to name a few of the forty-five plus artists.
Tickets are on sale, now, with three-day passes costing $99. The festival is also offering two types of upgraded VIP-style three-day passes, they’re called Front Porch Reserved Seating and Front Porch Standing Pit, and are available for $499. Additionally, there are multiple camping options – from tents to RVs and VIP perks – and all of the details and prices are available at: bigbarrelfestival.com.
