Michael Dorf’s latest Carnegie Hall charity tribute concert at will honor David Byrne and Talking Heads.
Rolling Stone reports an illustrious lineup for a tribute to David Byrne and Talking Heads featuring The Roots, Perry Farrell, Rufus Wainwright and Alexis Krauss – half of the Sleigh Bells duo. The tribute will take place at Carnegie Hall on March 23rd.
The star-studded tribute also presents a number of other talents including ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Beth Orton, O.A.R., Steve Earle, Todd Snider, Forro in the Dark and Bebel Gilberto, with additional artists to be revealed.
For its 11th charity tribute concert organizer Michael Dorf, owner of City Winery, offers The Music of David Byrne and Talking Heads. All concert proceeds will benefit music education programs for underprivileged youth. A statement indicates that to date, the concert program has managed to earn a total of over $1 million.
Artists who have been honored with past tributes include Prince, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Neil Young, R.E.M., the Who, The Rolling Stones and Paul Simon.
The forthcoming tribute concert will mark the fourth time Tonight Show band, the Roots, have been welcomed to play in one of Dorf’s Carnegie Hall performances. Earlier concerts boasting the band include tributes for Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Prince.
