Enter a colorful world of globular shapes and colorful creatures. Walk with a man as he faces surreal life.
This new video, which is the second released single from Noah Lennox’s new album Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper is thematic and sensory. Lennox, a member of Animal Collective described his fifth solo album as “break-centric”, and influenced by 9nth Wonder, who is a North Carolina born record producer and DJ who has a soulful production style that employs samples from and similar sounds to artists like Curtis Mayfield.
There is certainly a smoothness to this song, that is matched in the animation used for the video. The video is a kind of personal quest or odyssey undertaken by the main character who encounters some sort of large scallop in a pond as he traverses a wondrous dreamlike landscape full of supernatural flora and fauna. Curious, he puts his hand into a slowly throbbing hole in the creature, and is momentarily stuck. When he escapes it’s clutch, he is relieved until the body-horror sets in as he realized he is beset with some unknown malady that causes his skin and body to erupt all over with different blobs and globs of colorful matter. At first nervous and scared, he soon learns to roll with it, and is able to accept his new condition.
This acceptance is used to calm a mustached man who is also stuck in a similar scallop like creature; together they skip through the wonderland and the colorful maladies no longer seem so harmful, as they dance and whirl all around the two of them. They then happen upon another scallop who has engulfed a child. After rescuing the child, they walk off into the sunset, and only one thing has changed. The colorful palette of plants has gone; they stroll by the sea on a beach, or a newly barren landscape. The thematic nature of the video, along with the chromatic development that forms an interesting story are both enhanced by the song, with its indiscernible lyrics and happy bouncy vibe that is so well conglomerated that washes over you in a cool cleansing way.
