Psycho California Lineup Released Featuring Kylesa, Earth and OM

North America has a home for psychedelic doom metal, for slow-gates-of-hades-trip-out metal, and it is the Observatory nextMay 15th, 16th and 17th. Some of the acts to play include Kylesa, Orange Goblin and Bedemon.

The Observatory in Santa Ana, California, will host three days of heavy psychedelia, doom metal and other niche genres of the sort, like sludge. The festival, formerly known as Psycho de Mayo, will give bands such as Stoned Jesus, Old Man Gloom, Cave In, Ancient Altar, True Widow and Crypt Trip the chance to exhibit their music among their contemporaries, to crowds of their devotees.

The headliners have not yet been announced, though the coming of January will change that. The line up is already bursting with prestigious pioneers in these genres, many of whom have new material that they are excited to release. Kylesa released Ultraviolet in 2013, Earth has a new album out this year called Primative and Deadly, to follow up on their reunion double album that was released over the course of 2011, and 2012, called Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1 (2011), and Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 2 (2012). They were on a hiatus for approximately a decade, from 1996 to 2005, due to personnel issues, as well as personal issues.

Niche festivals such as Psycho California are becoming more popular throughout the world, and the potential that exists at such a place is wonderful. Musicians who represent specific genres that are not graced with mainstream attention often blaze their own trail regardless, and the collaborative nature of such specific festivals allows for not only more serious networking but also make for the establishment of a milestone within the progress of these genres whose audiences can also revel in the specificity of the bill.
