LISTEN: Charli XCX Covers “Money (That’s What I Want)”

Europe is a lucky continent. Charli XCX has released a cover version of “Money (That’s What I Want),” which will be featured as a bonus cut on the European editions of her upcoming album Sucker.

Charli XCX’s new record will be hitting store shelves in about three days, but that hasn’t stopped her from releasing a bonus track off of the album, a cover of “Money (That’s What I Want).” Although the song was originally recorded for Tamla and written by Barrett Strong, Charli XCX’s version is more reminiscent of the Flying Lizards’s version released in 1979. It’s a jarring, buzzing cover that pairs well with the British singer’s sultry rocker vocals. Unfortunately, fans of her work here in the States will have to miss out on the single, as the track will only appear as a bonus track on the European release of the record. This is the third revealed single off of the record, coming on the heels of both “Gold Coins” and “Breaking Up,” which were released earlier this year.

Sucker is shaping up to be one hell of a record. Charli XCX wants money for her newest musical triumph, and there are few who would be foolish enough to deny her monetary demands.
