Indiana indie rockers Murder By Death have released a new song. Entitled “Strange Eyes”, it’s the first single from the band’s upcoming album, Big Dark Love.

Big Dark Love is the band’s seventh album, and over the last 15 years the band has worked to bridge the musical divide that exists between so-called indie rock, country, and folk. But, they’ve also put out several albums that push the envelope, and prevent the band from becoming pigeon holed as just a roots rock act. “Strange Eyes” sets up Big Dark Love as an album that falls into the later category.

On “Strange Eyes”, Murder By Death taps into “the same reserve of acid-fried energy that powers psych-rock bands like Spiritualized and the Black Angels,” according to Entertainment Weekly. And, Paste Magazine labeled “Strange Eyes” as a song that is “an example of what Murder By Death does best: slow-building verses and subtle instrumentation that builds up to triumphant horns and guitar solos.” All in all, “Strange Eyes” is a very catchy song with a chorus that is bound to get fans up and moving at Murder By Death’s live shows.

At the end of December, Murder By Death is embarking on a North American tour, and then, Big Dark Love will be released on February 3rd, 2015, via Bloodshot Records.
