Folk-rock band Vetiver, headed by Andy Cabic, have announced the release of their next album Complete Strangers, on Easy Sound label.
Folk band Vetiver has announced a new album, Complete Strangers, to be released in March 2015. All of the album’s songs were written by songwriter Andy Cabic, and engineered and co-produced by Thom Monohan. Cabic said in a recent press release about working with Mohohan,
“My touring band and the musicians I’ve recorded with over the years are always changing, though many friends and players have stayed with me over albums and tours. The one constant has been Thom Monahan who has engineered and co-produced every Vetiver album. Thom lives in L.A., where most of Complete Strangers was recorded.”
Andy Cabic lives in San Francisco, and often took the long trek down to Southern California to work with Monohan. According to a press release, the album was recorded with musicians Bart Davenport, Gabe Noel and Josh Adams.
Cabic claims he is still “figuring the album out,” and stated, “As with many of Vetiver’s better moments, sunshine is only a chord away from melancholy. An introspective lyric underlies an extroverted chorus. Subtlety tries to be outgoing, loneliness familiar, in an effort to connect the dots of life’s ellipsis.”
Vetiver’s albums have been out on labels including DiCristina Sub Pop Records, and Fat Cat Records. Vetiver has also toured with bands like Fleet Foxes, The Shins, and Fruit Bats.
Vetiver is among the ranks of freak folk rockers like Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom, with some of Vetiver’s tracks co-written with Banhart. Vetiver’s newest album Complete Strangers is a collection of songs that, according to Cabic, “share things in common but come from different places.”
Complete Strangers is out March 24th on Easy Sound label.
