London-based sister rock duo, 2:54 are hitting the road for a tour with Honeyblood in February 2015. The North American tour will be supporting 2:54’s sophomore and latest release, The Other I, which is out now on Bella Union.
With The Other I, Irish-born and Bristol-raised, sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow have taken a hands on approach to their music, and the result is atmospheric, imaginative and thrilling rock.
Where did the band come up with the album’s title?
Colette explained in a press release that the album was inspired by one of her favorite poets, Percy Shelley, who she described as, “a rousing romantic, politically charged, a proto-punk of sorts. He called his friend and muse Elizabeth Hitchener the ‘sister of my soul, my second self.’ These lines kept returning to me last year and from there I arrived at ‘The Other I’. The Other I is an enquiry into the duality of the human experience – the division between the self that pounds on like a juggernaut in your head, and the self you present to the world. The idea extends to Hannah and I, to our sisterhood. We know intrinsically what the other thinks and feels, music is just another language we use to communicate.”
The sisters will be bringing their intrinsic communication and music to cities across the U.S., beginning in Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on February 27th, 2015, and wrapping up with a performance at the VIVA PHX Music Festival on March 14th. The Brooklyn show is the second in recent months that Hannah and Colette have done in the New York City metro-area, as they also played during the CMJ Music Marathon in October 2014. And, in addition to the U.S. gigs, they also have one Canadian show – March 3rd, 2015 at the Silver Dollar Room in Toronto, Ontario.
