Following the announcement of Grammy nominations for Jack White’s latest album, Lazaretto, White will be touring again starting in January. The tour will take him to multiple cities in the U.S. and in South America.
In the midst of White’s fall 2014 tour, his touring keyboardist, Isaiah “Ikey” Owens, passed away. Owens, who was also a member of the band Mars Volta, played on White’s albums Blunderbuss and Lazaretto. Following Owens’ death, White cancelled the remainder of his tour out of respect for the keyboardist. Queens of the Stone Age’s Dean Fertita, who is White’s fellow band member in The Dead Weather, has been playing piano and keyboard on the remainder of the tour and will be joining him again in January.
While White was performing in London in November, he paid tribute to Owens by playing “Love Interruption,” a song from his first solo album, Blunderbuss.
White and his company, Third Man Records, have just released a new virtual reality app in a partnership with Jaunt called “JACK WHITE: THIRD-D.” The app is currently only available at the Google Play Store and through Jaunt, and users must have a recent 5-inch or 6-inch Android mobile phone. The app also requires a Google Cardboard viewer. You can experience White’s performances at Fenway Park and Red Rock Amphitheatre with 360-degree, stereoscopic 3D cameras and 3D sound-field microphones.
The Dead Weather released some new music in late October, including the tracks “Buzzkiller” and “It’s Just Too Bad.” In late November, White released a new single that happens to be a cover of “Parallel,” a track from Dean Fertita’s 1999 solo project.
