Austin Psych Fest 2015 Lineup Announced Featuring Flaming Lips, Tame Impala And Jesus And Mary Chain

Austin Psych Fest has announced their 2015 lineup for the 8th annual event, including Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Austin Psych Fest has changed their name to Levitation, and announced the lineup for the 2015 festival,  which features Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, and Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized (performing Psychocandy), Primal Scream, Black Angels, Thee Oh Sees, and Mac Demarco, among others.

The 8th annual festival is taking place from May 8th to the 10th, in Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas. Weekend passes, camping passes, deluxe passes, and camping rentals are now available at the festival’s website.

2015 sees the Austin Psych Fest taking on a new name, Levitation, as the festival joins forces with Transmission Events, who is behind Fun Fun Fun Fest and other shows at numerous venues across the US.

Austin Psych Fest is considered the dominant festival in its genre, which also features experimental, noise, and garage music, along with psychedelic. According to the festival’s website, the festival began back in 2008 in an effort to, “honor and preserve Austin’s psychedelic rock heritage, and carry it into the future.”

The festival’s new name is in spirit with the festival’s love of psychedelic rock music, “The title comes from one of our favorite tracks from Austin legends The 13th Floor Elevators, who have provided us with endless inspiration. Their music and message transcended genre – they were, and are, true innovators.”

The festival not only features huge rock artists such as The Flaming Lips and up and coming Australian Tame Impala, but the festival also features psychedelic light shows which take place on their side stages.

The Flaming Lips, the fest’s biggest headliner, dismissed their longtime drummer Kliph Scurlock earlier this year due to musical differences. But don’t worry, they still killed it at Outside Lands last summer.

Scottish rockers The Jesus and Mary Chain will be performing Psychocandy, in celebration of the albums 30th year. No strangers to festivals, the recently reunited band have been touring and releasing box sets for the last few years of their reunion, which began with a 2007 performance at Coachella.

Other notable acts at the festival include Canadian rocker Mac DeMarco, who released his second studio album Salad Days earlier this year, and has toured extensively since. Another band to watch at the festival is Thee Oh Sees, San Francisco’s favorite psychedelic and punk rock band, who just reunited after a short hiatus earlier this year.

Austin Psych Fest is open to all ages and tickets for a weekend pass at the festival are currently on sale for $160, and you can also purchase camping and RV rental tickets.
