Sleater-Kinney has reunited and will be releasing their first album in 10 years, No Cities to Love in January 2015. They released a new song from that album called “Surface Envy” on December 2.
The new album will be available via Sub Pop Records on January 20. According to Consequence of Sound, the band went on Reddit to answer questions from fans, and premiered the new track at the end of the Q&A. “Surface Envy” is the second song they’ve released from the forthcoming album, the first being “Bury Our Friends.”
The new track has a fast tempo and a lot of guitar shredding. The vocals and instrumentals are both loud, but are complementing each other rather than competing with each other. The upbeat, hard-rocking “Surface Envy” can be streamed below.
Sleater-Kinney’s comeback began with the remastering and re-release of their discography in a box set back in October. The trio finally officially announced their reunion just before the box set’s reissue, and at the same time, they announced the new album and a 2015 tour in North America and Europe.
