Walk the Moon is an indie rock band based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The band was formed by lead singer Nicholas Petricca in 2008. The band derives their name from the song “Walking on the Moon” by The Police. They independently released their debut album, i want! i want!, in November 2010. Their song “Anna Sun” off the album was their biggest hit reaching multiple airwaves and becoming their first big single.
In 2011, Walk the Moon signed with Mick Management. They then signed to RCA Records and released their first official album, Walk the Moon, in summer of 2012. Their self-titled debut is composed of many of their original tracks from their independently released album as well as new tracks. SPIN Magazine has described the band as a “poppy, art-rock quartet.” They were also titled Nylon Magazines Band Crush for their “swirly pop beats, infectious guitar riffs, and loud, sing-a-long choruses.
Recently, Walk the Moon released two new singles titled “Shut Up + Dance” and “Different Colors” in advance of their new album, Talking is Hard. The album was surprise released on Spotify a week before its set release date December 2.
