Terror Pigeon Release New Song “Dharma & Greged”

The recent release of Terror Pigeon’s sophomore effort Live It Up Before You Die It Up was rather short, and left us wanting more. Our wishes were granted with the new release of ‘Dharma and Greged’, a bouncy new single. Dig it.

The release of Terror Pigeon’s second full-length album was a project more than four years in the making, and yet there were only 10 songs on the tracklist. Although this left us a snubbed in a good way, wanting more and being forced to listen to it again, we discovered that the album is a cache of exhilaration, a collection ebullience, that fits niches across the universe. The tightness with which the album is put together leaves the idea of songs left out as an afterthought, one which doesn’t occur until after we’ve listened.

Evidently, the release of Yucksongs!, which is, according to Stereogum, somewhat of a companion b-sides collection to ‘Live It Up Before You Die It Up!’ are those songs left out of the coherent sophomore effort. The song features similar arpeggiated piano structures that are more often than not the precursor to a skittering electro-wave build up, as well as the enigmatic and visual yet simple lyrics such as “I can’t quite see you through the snow but I know you’re out there calling out..”Another great feature of this song is the tradeoff that is established between each lyricist. This makes the song’s theme, which like so many other songs and books and paintings and movies, is unrequited love, decidedly dynamic, and wholly realistic in the universe that it creates for itself during it’s 3 minutes and 6 seconds duration. The bright guitar motif that creeps over the arpeggiated piano ushers in the energetic beat mix, which recedes quickly to introduce Malee Bringardner and her hauntingly velvet voice. Her voice and Nathan Vanderpool’s intermingle for the remainder of the song amid varying waves and troughs of rickety beat rocking, until the last line which is sad, and funny, and solo. Its a great track. Check it out below.

It’s worth mentioning that Terror Pigeon, or Terror Pigeon!, used to go by the name Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, but have changed their name since their first album, named I love You. I Love You. I Love You and I’m in Love with You. Have and Awesome Day! Have the Best Day of Your Life! came out in 2010, on David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop.
