Lotus is an instrumental electronic jam band that formed in Indiana in 1999. Their first album, Vibes, was a compilation of live performances from their 2001 tour, and was released in 2002. They later signed to Harmonized Records and released two studio albums. Their album, Nomad went to the top of the Home Grown Music Network charts, and eventually became best seller. Glide Magazine stated that the album “exhibits Lotus’ tight ability to blend shades of organic groove with elements of urban house.”
Lotus music style expands upon a wide range of music styles and sounds. They incorporate rock, electronica, jazz, jam, hip-hop, funk, and other genres. Band member Jesse Miller commented on the band’s sound, “I truly believe Lotus’ sound comes from the roots of rock ‘n’ roll mixed with electronic beats that are popular today. It took a long time for us to finally find a sound we all agreed on. But believe me, we experimented plenty before deciding what sound we were looking for.”
Their latest album, Gilded Age, was released in the Summer of this year. Their website quotes that the album was made to occupy “that powerful place of the human mind, the mental eye that can see erosion and cracks and envision a palace. We focused primarily on simple organic instruments: drum, bass, guitar, piano, percussion, played live in a room. The overall mood is one of reflective happiness, the joy of the impermanent, nostalgia of halcyon days.”
