It’s not enough for Nicole Atkins to release top notch record, a few great videos and announce a winter U.S. tour in one year – the girl always has ‘one more thing.’ This time it’s a deluxe edition of a ‘Slow Phaser’ LP which is a full-length bonus disc – an eight-track set recorded in Detroit this summer. And the live version of ‘Red Ropes’ streaming now… Just WOW this song is good!
A live version of ‘Red Ropes’ is nothing like the album sounding. French romantic mood is replaced with riot version of Radiohead’s ‘Hail To The Thief’-like arpeggio rock performance with a pinch of blues.
Atkins performed live only with a guitarist Dave Rosen, and drummer Chris D’Onofrio. However, the power of the live sounding is unique, even unbelievable in the moments. Nicole agrees:
“The sound that we made was larger than any sound I’ve ever gotten from a five or six piece band. Simplifying the music, bringing it down to where there’s only three things happening, it really just cut away all the fat. When you hear ‘The Tower’ or ‘Red Ropes’ performed live by just three people, it’s powerful stuff. With the three piece, all of my songs sound classic and evil.”
The release of ‘Slow Phaser: Expanded Deluxe Edition’ is set for December 2nd, and it will include the following songs from Detroit summer performance:
1. Who Killed The Moonlight?
2. Gasoline Bride
3. The Way It Is
4. The Worst Hangover
5. We Wait Too Long
6. Red Ropes
7. War Torn
8. The Tower
Thereby, it’s much left to expect from Nicole yet this year. Waiting for the expanded ‘Slow Phaser’ release and the upcoming Atkins’ East Coast mini-tour, arouse your appetite for hearing Nicole live with ‘Red Ropes’ Detroit version below.
