Helmet Announce They Will Play Betty In It’s Entirety On New Tour Dates

Alt-metal legends Helmet have announced new US tour dates where they will be playing their classic 1994 album Betty in honor of it’s 20th anniversary.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, alternative metal band Helmet has announced that they will play their classic album Betty in its entirety in upcoming tour dates in honor of the album’s 20th anniversary.

After the success of performing Betty on their European tour, Helmet will play the full album in upcoming US dates. The band wrote on their homepage,

“Our European Betty Anniversary tour has been such a resounding success, we’re pleased to announce a Betty tour of the United States in February 2015. Just as we did in Europe, we’re playing the entire Betty album from start to finish — even the difficult songs — followed by a second set spanning the entire catalog.”

In July of this year, Helmet announced that they were working on new material for their eighth studio album, due out in 2015. Founding member and lead vocalist Page Hamilton told New Noise Magazine, “I’m so happy with Seeing Eye Dog that I wanna do another record with this lineup and everybody’s stoked. So, we’ll probably, realistically, get in and record the rest of it in January and then figure like a spring release next year.”

The current lineup Hamilton is referring to includes Kyle Stevenson on drums, Dan Beeman on guitar, and Dave Case on bass. Hemlet is known for having an ever-changing lineup, with Hamilton being the only original member still in the band.

Helmet hit mainstream success in 1992 when they signed to Interscope Records, where they were rumored to have received one million dollars at signing, plus creative control over their music. After releasing smash hit album Meantime in 1994, Helmet hit their peak in terms of Billboard position and album sales.

After the success of Meantime, the band recorded Aftertaste with only three members. The band split up soon after, due to internal disputes.

With the reunion of the band in 2004 with new members, Helmet recorded Size Matters in 2004, Monochrome in 2006, and their most recent album Seeing Eye Dog in 2010 via Work Song.

Helmet recently also did a 20th anniversary tour in 2011 for the album Meantime, where they performed the whole album at an array of European shows.

Their newest tour in honor of the 20th anniversary for Betty will begin in February in the US. Page Hamilton said of the album,

“So with Betty, the band had been together for another two years and toured extensively at that point and we felt we could expand our songwriting. It was fun and I really like the album. I’m glad that it’s stood the test of time and a lot of people at the time that were disappointed because it didn’t sell in the US as much as Meantime -now I find out that people hold that album in higher esteem.”
