WATCH: Russell Brand Releases A Cover Of Blur’s “Parklife”

Ressuell Brand created a response to “Parklife” meme, but creating his own cover of Blur’s song. His version is to mock his critics as well as include some of his political comments.

The initial idea for this parody stems from a new running joke on the internet to comment on Russell Brand’s posts with “Parklife”. According to Brooklyn Vegan, “It’s a jab at his hyper-verbose way of speaking, especially on social/political issues (to which he speaks a lot these days) and how in his accent it kinda sounds like Phil Daniels on Blur’s 1994 UK hit.”

Additionally, video mashups have been created to further fuel the fire on this joke. In one compilation, the original video of Parklife plays and cuts to various interviews of Brand in moments where he is professing his beliefs or making political statements.

Despite these criticism’s Brand has used the joke to his own advantage. In his parody, which closely resembles Blur’s original version, Brand collaborates with Rubberbandits to put forth more of his beliefs and political ideologies.

Some Brand’s lyrics featured on The Guardian include the following:

“Verbal dexterity plus estuary accent is what leads to parody of
PARKLIFE
But words used efficently can be a dangerous tool that slices through propaganda like a
SHARP KNIFE
We can’t get our heads around the fact that five families have as much dough as 12 million Brits, that can’t be right in any accent
CLASS STRIFE
You can’t be polysyllabic or talk about important things unless you went to school in a top hat and tails”
