This week, Emmy the Great released a new song. “Swimming Pool”, which features Tom Fleming of Wild Beats, is the first new material that we have heard from her about three years – save for a Halloween Project, and a collaboration with the BPA.
Described as “lovely and enchanting” by Consequence of Sound, “Swimming Pool” finds Emmy in new territory. She’s exploring a bigger sound that incorporates guitar and synths. “Swimming Pool” features both instruments working together to create a warm and bubbly feeling. And while the feeling on this track may be different, she still retains the knack for poetic lyrics that were key to her sound on earlier albums.

Emmy the Great – who’s given name is Emma-Lee Moss – hails from London and her last major album was 2011’s Virtue. With the release of “Swimming Pool”, could she be gearing up for another full-length release? Only time will tell.
On that note, Bellaunion.com is reporting that Emmy has plans to release an EP, called “S”, on Jaunary 26th, 2015.
She explained a key difference between “S” and her previous releases, saying:
“My previous recordings were a reflection of my internal world, but this is a record of me trying to engage with the outside. Over the course of travelling and touring for the last two years I inhabited many cities and landscapes. While I wrote this EP and the album that will follow, everything changed. As I wrote the songs I began to reflect more and more the world that I saw around me, incredibly bright, technologically breathtaking. I am curious about being a person in this world, and I tried to write that into the music.”
In addition to her musical career, Emmy utilizes her observational qualities as a part of her writing career. She’s had success reaching a broad audience with her work featured in The Guardian and Vice.
