After working together on a couple of unused tracks for the score to the film Dredd, Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury are once again teaming up to put together the soundtrack for the upcoming film Ex Machina.
Both Barrow & Salisbury have become very familiar with soundtrack music by this point. After all, their unused tracks for the 2012 movie Dredd wound up leading the duo to record the album Drokk, which was comprised of the unused tracks and a few newer pieces that were directly inspired from the Dredd recordings. Now, some two years after the records release, both Barrow & Salisbury are working together again, only this time, their work will feature prominently in the upcoming film Ex Machina, directed by Alex Garland, who also penned the script for Dredd. The trailer for the film, which is set to release in April next year, features a brief sample of the compositions that both Barrow and Salisbury have created for the film, and the music seems to fit what appears to be a very dark, brooding film about the rise of self-aware artificial intelligence.
Geoff Barrow is a founding member of the experimental English group Portishead. Ben Salisbury has penned well over two hundred film and TV scores, recently composing the soundtrack for David Attenboroughs “Life Of…” series.
