Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks released a short film for “Catchy (Was Contagious)” from their new album, Enter the Slasher House. The short film was directed by Abigail Portner, who had a distinct view for the video.
It is completely in black and white, inspired by Universal’s horror era from the 1950s and have the old Los Angeles vibe. The film is very creepy and a bit weird. It is a modern film with the feel of a classic movie. It follows a small boy with a curious mind who ends up wandering off and encountering mysterious things. When he wanders off after a girl with balloons, things get bad and the boy now has to escape from the werewolf who keeps hunting him down.
The actual film was crisp and clean and was visually creative in its simplicity and creates a build up for the song. With no outrageous stunts or special effects, the actors who portray the monsters bring out the fear without saying anything. When the song picks up and the lyrics start flowing out, the film gets to the climax and both aid each other to carry out the rest of the video. The short creates its own story, as well as showcasing the song.
The short will premiere live at Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks Halloween performance at the Ace Hotel.
