CMJ and The Sounds of Australia combine forces at the Delancey yesterday afternoon. Musicians from all over Australia showcased their talents at what is known as the Aussie BBQ.
Yesterday afternoon, people gathered in the upstairs of the Delancey to hear bands from all over Australia play and eat some famous Australian bar-b-que. The Aussie BBQ has been going on for some time in Australia. Although Australia already has a big music scene, the Aussie BBQ allows musicians who are Aussie’s to showcase their talent while enjoying some really good BBQ. Some of yesterday afternoon’s performances included Tales In Space, Oxford & Co., Tom West, Eden Mulholland and Kate-Miller Heidke.
All the bands performed very well, but the crowd favorite what seemed to be Kate-Miller Heidke. She has been in NYC for about six weeks starring in an opera show at the Metropolitan Opera House as well as recording a Christmas album with American singer, Amanda Palmer. Kate-Miller Heidke first of all sings “frighteningly good,” according to one fan in the audience. As a soprano and opera singer, she incorporated such a unique edginess to indie-folk. She also played a new song for the first time called “Humiliation” that showcased her unusual ability to yodel.
Thanks to CMJ and Aussie BBQ for the wonderful food and and great talent!
