On the verge of re-releasing a re-tooled version of her debut record The New Classic under the title Reclassified, Iggy Azalea has just released a new video for her single, “Beg For It,” which will be featured on the upcoming record.
Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has been emerging as one of the more prominent female rap artists of the last few years. Often, I hear people say that they can’t believe the blonde-haired Aussie is capable of delivering a vocal style like Azalea has, and that mind-blowing fact is ever more present in her newest video, “Beg For It.” The song kicks off with a steady, yet forceful beat and continues throughout the song, supplemented by Azalea’s signature vocal and lyrical style. Featuring fellow female rapper Mo, the lyrical content of “Beg For It” goes above and beyond the implications of the title itself. While it doesn’t quite feel all that different from what rap has already been putting out before, it’s clear that Azalea is on the verge of coming up with something truly new and unique that will eventually rival all male and female rappers that are currently out there. It isn’t clear, based on this single, what was Azaleas contribution and what was Mos input, and that is perhaps what makes it so difficult to pin down the significance of the single.
Recently performing at the iHeart Radio Music Festival, Azalea has also made mainstream heads turn when her albums occupied both the number one and number two spots on Billboards Hot 100, a feat accomplished only by the Beatles. The difficulty in trying to place Azalea anywhere on the rap spectrum is the fact that she’s currently worked on many collaborative efforts, including recording a single with Ariana Grande. The silver lining, though, is that while her current records don’t quite put forth what Azalea is all about, it will truly be a significant release once she breaks out on her own.
