Megadeth’s front man Dave Mustaine is reaching out to the public for help to find his missing mother-in-law, who has Alzheimer’s, after she walked away from a southern California campground earlier in October. He believes that she was picked up, and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
Mustaine’s 76 year-old mother-in-law, Sally Estabrook, was last seen on October 4th, 2014. She had been camping with her husband at Pinezanita RV Park & Campgrounds in Julian, northeast of San Diego. He had last seen her before he went to take a shower. When he returned, she was gone, according to reports by the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Search-and-rescue teams from four counties, members of the U.S. Border Patrol, and more than 300 volunteers have taken part in the search for Estabrook, Blabbermouth reported.
In a phone call with The Bob and Coe Show on San Diego’s rock radio station 101 KGB, Mustaine said:
“We live in Tennessee, and we have our house in California too, so we had just moved back to Tennessee and then we get this phone call [about Estabrook’s disappearance]. And it’s, like, ‘Well, is she in the campsite and you’re gonna find her in an hour?’ ‘Is she at a girlfriend’s camper or something, or is she gone?’ And she’s just plain gone, you guys.
They had bloodhounds, they had cadaver dogs, they had helicopters, motorcycles, ATVs…everybody. And that’s why now we’re appealing to the community, expanding the perimeter and trying to make people aware of this, because somebody picked her up. There’s no way a 76-year-old woman can trek all the way down a mountain like that. So somebody was being nice and trying to help her. And we’re thinking that the person who tried to help her is afraid that maybe they did something wrong. We don’t care. We just wanna know where she is.”
Law enforcement and the family have released the following photo and details about Estabrook’s disappearance, and what the public can do to assist in finding her.
Sally Estabrook is 5 foot-4 inches tall, with shoulder length blonde hair and blue eyes. She weighs approximately 145 pounds and was last seen wearing a teal top and white Capri pants. Searchers have cautioned that her appearance may have changed since October 4th. Her family has reported that she is in late stage Alzheimer’s, and is no longer able to communicate verbally. But, she may respond to her name, or “Nana” – the name her grandchildren have for her, according to the New York Daily News.
If you have any information about Estabrook’s disappearance, current location, or if you have seen her, call 9-1-1 or the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200.
