Guardians of the Galaxy was widely praised and most fans agree that the movie would not have been the same without the soundtrack, which is comprised of songs from the 1970s.
The soundtrack has already been released digitally, on CD and on vinyl, but it was only a matter of time until it was released on cassette tape – just like Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Vol. 1 in the movie. According to Stereogum, the soundtrack is currently the tenth best-selling album of 2014.
Much like vinyl, there has been a recent renewed interest in cassette tapes, but this release probably stems more from the cassette’s central position in the film. Peter Quill, also known as Star Lord, constantly listens to the nostalgic mix on a cassette from his childhood in his Walkman, another media dinosaur.
The release will be limited edition and will begin on November 17, but only in indie record stores that also participate in Record Store Day. It will be the first cassette tape released by a Disney company since 2003. Check out the full track list for the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack below.
