Thurston Moore’s latest video is a strange, cinematic production that’s certainly fitting for the month of Halloween.
“Speak To The Wild” is a repetitive number, but it’s powerful in its constancy. This latest from Thurston Moore joins the song with a video that follows a young boy through a day. He chases a woman with witchy hair – his mother? – throughout gray-green woods, and is in general a cute little boy while Moore’s drawling vocals play on.
“Don’t let the dark get you lost,” croon the lyrics.
The clips of the child are interspersed with shots of a man in a hooded jacket. It gets creepier when the child begins walking through the woods on his own, and—well, you’ll have to watch to get the rest of the bizarre story. The video honestly feels like it could be an episode of American Horror Story. There are a lot of instrumental bits of the song, and it works with this long-ish video, giving it a cinematic feel.
Thurston Moore is on his US tour presently, and The Best Day Out album comes out tomorrow via Matador Records. NPR calls Moore’s music “even-handed and steady, repetitious and assured,” encouraging us to “peer inside, where the details of his decisions lie in wait.” The Guardian called the songs “both comforting and discomfiting.”
Moore’s other projects include the Thurston Moore Band, Caught on Tape (a project with John Moloney), and a recent tour with Sebadoh.
