Pixies Announce Reissue of Doolittle 25 For December 2014 Release

The Pixies will re-issue their second album, Doolittle, in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The re-issue – a three-cd set entitled Pixies: Doolittle 25 – is slated for release on December 2, 2014 via 4AD.

Prior to the release of Doolittle, the Pixies – Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering – had developed a cult-like following in their native Britain. But, with the release of Doolittle in the States, thanks in part to a partnership between the U.K.-based 4AD and the U.S.-based Elektra, the Pixies were on the cusp of influencing, not only their American fans, but the music scene at large.

The album was produced by Gil Norton and recorded in late 1988 in Boston, MA and Stamford, CT. Doolittle, which featured some of the band’s most memorable singles – “Monkey Gone To Heaven,” “Here Comes Your Man,” and “Debaser” – soon became a hit, and solidified the band’s international success.

So, what can we look forward to from this reissue?

Well, Pixies: Doolittle 25 is a three-disc package that brings together all of the album’s B-sides, Peel Sessions and demos from the time, along with the original album. Nearly half of the tracks on this album are making their first commercial appearance, according to a recent press release. Pixies: Doolittle 25 will be available on CD in North American shops on December 2, 2014. It will also be available in all digital formats, as well as a double-vinyl edition that features all of the aforementioned bonus material.

And, like all other Pixies records, Vaughan Oliver returns to oversee the cover art design. He will reinterpret his original artwork, along with photos by Simon Larbalestier, to create a new metallic ink design, according to a press release.

2014 has been a tumultuous year for the band. In January, the Pixies had released new EP; in February, the band commentated they had parted ways with Kim Shattuck; and, in September, they played at the famous Hollywood Bowl with Cat Power. But, the re-issue is setting the Pixies up to end the year on a positive note, and they’ve promised fans that there is much more to come from the band in 2015.
