Lucinda Williams is an American rock, folk, blues, and country music singer and songwriter. She started recording her first albums in 1978 in a traditional country/blues style and didn’t gain much attention from radio, media, or the public. In 1988 she released her self-titled album. The album contained her single “Passionate Kisses,” which later got Williams her first Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1994.
Williams recorded and released only one other album in the next several years titled, Sweet Old World (1992), before her greatest success came in 1998 with Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. Williams 1998 release was an album presenting a broader scope of songs that fused rock, blues, country, and Americana. Car Wheels on a Gravel Road went gold and earned Williams another Grammy. She was named Americas Best Songwriter by TIME Magazine in 2002.
Williams latest work is her eleventh album, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone. The album was released early this year on Highway 20 Records. The songs “Compassion” and “It’s Gonna Rain” are the most popular releases off of the album.
