It really looks like every joke is only partly a joke. Because nothing else explains the fact that Meow The Jewels is really happening.
At the very beginning El-P, a member of hip-hop duo Run The Jewels, said it’d be nice to re-record the outfit’s upcoming second album RTJ2 using only sounds produced by cats. Then a guy started a campaign on Kickstarter in September to pledge the needed sum – $40 000.
El-P has made a statement via Twitter that if the project will be funded, he’ll make an album:
someone made a kickstarter to fund the "MEOW THE JEWELS PACKAGE". if this gets funded i will make this album.https://t.co/6tvzp2Z3rF

And here it is – more than enough is pledged, and the record will be released! That’s literally what El-P exclaimed through Twitter yesterday:
MEOW THE JEWELS HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN FUNDED WITH MORE THAN 10 DAYS LEFT!

Involving participants like Portishead’s drummer Geoff Barrow, Dan The Automator, Just Blaze, Zola Jesus and others interested in the project, as reported by Stereogum, and promising to send all the funds to charity (to the victims of the police brutality, to be specific), El-P has undoubtedly heated the interest to Meow The Jewels. Now a lot of people will be expecting for the unprecedented cat noise rap album. Run The Jewels, bring it on!
The full list of the artists taking part in the upcoming record is the following:
El-P himself
Geoff Barrow
Zola Jesus
Bauuer
Boots
Just Blaze
