Sound Tribe Sector 9, stylized as STS9, is an instrumental band whose sound is based heavily on electronic, funk, jazz, drum, bass, psychedelica, and hip hop. They originally formed in Georgia, and has described themselves as “post-rock dance music.”
STS9 has released 11 albums, two remixed albums, and two live DVDs. They also run their own label, 1320 Records. STS9 has toured the United States nationally and internationally. They have been ranked among Pollstar Magazine’s list of top-grossing touring acts. They also have a very heavy presence in the music festival circuit playing over 60 music festivals. At Rothbury in 2008, STS9 performed a three and a half hour show with a packed capacity crowd.
Their latest album was released in June of 2011. The studio EP was titled, When The Dust Settles. XLR8R Magazine claimed that STS9 is “one of the country’s most intriguing, innovative groups around.” The EP debuted at number one on the iTunes electronic charts, and landed in Billboard’s Top 25. Their first single off of the EP, “Scheme,” was downloaded over 100,000 times in its first week alone.
