Screaming Females has released a new song “Wishing Well”. The group, which is currently on tour, hopes to promote this single along with their album Live at the Hideout.
“I’m certain that many listeners will consider this song a ‘departure’ for us, but really, we’ve never had a set formula as to what style of music we ought to be playing,” said Marissa Paternoster in an interview with the Rolling Stone.
She went on to say, “When we first started playing it live, people seemed to take to it immediately. People would always ask, ‘Hey, play that song about the wishing well or whatever it’s called!’”
According to Consequence of Sound, “Wishing Well” is quite different from what the New Jersey group normally performs. [Their usual routine is] “replaced by steady bass grooves, danceable percussion, and lithe, strummy guitars. Even as they jump a couple intensity levels at the very end, the song’s best described as “playful” and “shimmery.” The piece de resistance, though, is Paternoster, who sounds alive with extra warmth as she cuts out the screaming for truly evocative crooning” commented Consequence of Sound.
