Another Neon Anthem
Here we have Steve Aoki’s second solo album on Dim Mak and Ultra records. The album is pure Aoki – hype tracks and big room mixes that will hardly offend anyone. Neon Future I is loaded with famous friends firepower that will make it hard to disappoint anyone who cares to give it a listen. The album opens with an intro calling for profound music, more fulfilling lives and all of that good stuff. What the album delivers on, though, is a collection of tracks that will make you OK with getting cake thrown in your face and grinding up on crop-top wearing PLUR warriors.
Following the intro and “Neon Future” is the track “Back to Earth (feat. Fall Out Boy).” This is a fun track that brings back those guys that you remember from middle school. Like the rest of the album the track is bound to make you bounce. It’s Steve Aoki, and the track makes you want to stage dive with a inflatable boat and cruise over thousands of your adoring fans. Fall Out Boy provides lyrics that can almost inspire you to live your life to the fullest.
There are other songs that are not so new, like “Delirious (feat. Chris Lake, Tujamo & Kid Ink),” which you may recognize from those Bluetooth speaker commercials. Again, it’s classic Steve Aoki. Heavy bass and uninspired lyrics fuel the four-minute rager, which you can just imagine creating waves in the festival crowd.
Other big names on the album include will.i.am, Afrojack, Machine Gun Kelly and Flux Pavilion. With friends like that, it’s hard to dislike. Music has purpose. Neon Future I‘s purpose is to make large crowds of humans dance. Too many people get hung up on having fun. Not every song has to be a classic or Mozart. If it makes you move, it makes a difference. Steve Aoki has put together an album that will make you do just that.
