This is the tenth, and the last, Blowout show the group will play. The annual event is about to come to an end.
Didn’t catch Doomtree at their last big Blowout show? Well, this might be your last opportunity. The band is officially retiring the event to the big gig in the sky.
If you worry that means the band is calling it quits, grab a paper bag and breathe slowly. Doomtree is still going to be around to meet all of your hip-hop needs. They’re only putting the Blowout event to rest.
Doomtree’s Blowout shows started as a series of concerts in their hometown of Minneapolis. The group of rappers wanted to introduce their music to people who might otherwise never have heard it, and to showcase the Twin Cities music scene.
Each year, Doomtree heads out to different venues to perform their eclectic mix of hip-hop, remixes and music styles that come entirely out of left field.
In the past, the event was relatively small, reserved to just one venue with the occasional special guest performer. This year’s Blowout is still going to be in the Twin Cities, but it’ll be anything but low-key.
For starters, Doomtree will play at the Turf Club, then move on to ten venues in eight days. If that sounds ambitious, you haven’t heard what else they’re going to do that week.
The show at the Icehouse will feature the group’s side projects, while the Tuesday gig thinks of the children. That’s right. The group starts the day off visiting a local school, sitting in on preschool story time and then heading to a high school media center to teach students that being a band kid is actually pretty cool. They’ll end the night with an all-ages show at the Triple Rock.
If you want your quick claim to fame, you can stop in on Doomtree’s show at the Varsity Theater, where they’ll film an episode of their series The Lowertown Line.
To be the first to snag tickets, the presale starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, but you have to be a member of the mailing list. Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, October 3 at noon. If you don’t want to order online, you can pick your tickets up in-person at The Depot on October 3 at 4:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds go to charity, so you can feel good about spoiling yourself.
