Queens Of The Stone Age Will Play A Halloween Show With Nick Oliveri

Queens of the Stone Age have announced a special Halloween concert at The Forum in Los Angeles, Calif. This show will feature a six-song encore set with the band’s former bassist Nick Oliveri. But, whether or not Oliveri would record with the band in the future remains unclear.

In an interview with NME, Oliveri explained that the Halloween show would be “a reunion, but not a reunion,” as he will not join the band onstage until the end of the evening.

How did this mini-reunion come to fruition?

Well, Oliveri stated that over the years, he had made frontman Josh Homme aware that he would be interested in a reunion, but the decision rested with Homme.

Oliveri said to NME,

“I always put myself out there, and so finally he came up with this Halloween date. First he asked for my band to open up, and I said yeah. Then he got back to me and said: ‘At the end, do you want to do some of the old songs?’ I was like, ‘Sure man! Let’s do it!’ It should be a very fun and interesting night.”

Will this lead to him rejoining the band on a more permanent basis? Or, open up the possibility of Oliveri going into the studio with them to record new music?

“That’s pretty much up to Josh. It’s his band, and when he pulls the trigger on something, it’s up to him,” he said to NME.

Oliveri and Homme appear to have a positive working relationship, as Oliveri provided background vocals on “If I Had A Tail” from the Queens of the Stone Age album, . . .Like Clockwork. And, this past April, he had joined the band onstage for the first time in 10 years at Portland’s Keller Auditorium.

As a solo artist, Oliveri released an album, entitled “Leave Me Alone”, on September 15th, 2014. “Leave Me Alone” includes special guest appearances by Motörhead’s Phil Campbell, Dean Ween of Ween, and Kyuss Lives!’s Bruno Fevery. And, Oliveri has a UK tour linedup this fall.
