Foo Fighters Fans Use Kickstarter To Fund A Show In Birmingham

Taking a cue from Foo Fighters fans in Richmond, Va., group of British Foo Fighters fans have created a Kickstarter campaign to bring the band to the U.K. in 2015.

The Kickstarter had set a minimum goal of £150,000 (approximately $244,714), with a £50 pledge needed to secure a ticket to the proposed concert. As of September 25th, 2014, the fans behind the campaign have reached and exceeded their goal, according to NME.com.

What was the initial motivation behind the Kickstarter?

The question the campaign asked is simple; are ‘you’ – a U.K. Foo Fighters fan – tired of missing out on excellent concert tickets due to unreasonable resale prices and scalpers? If so, keep reading to find out what has been happening and how to get involved.

The Kickstarter page states,

“In light of the recent documentary by the BBC programme ‘Watchdog’ investigating the secondary ticket market along with artists such as Gene Simmons declaring “Rock is finally dead” – we are here to prove to the industry that Rock will never die, but we hope that the ticket touting industry does! [. . .] By doing this we are putting the power of ticket sales back into the hands of the fans, not the touts.”

The page goes on to state that the crowd funded show would coincide with the band’s 2015 U.K. tour in support of Sonic Highways. However, the crowd-funded campaign has until Nov. 17th, 2014 to raise the necessary minimum funds and sell enough tickets, before presenting this idea to the Foo Fighters’ management and proposing a date for the concert. Ideally, the Kickstarter aims to propose a 3,000 capacity concert in or near Birmingham, England, U.K.

Lastly, it is important to note that, “Every penny of this will be going into the project (minus any transaction fees and handling costs generated by creating the event). Every member of the team running the project will be doing so free of charge – this is a Not For Profit project.”
