After recently announcing two new records set to come out soon, Prince has just released a single off of one of the new records, “Funknroll.” Although it features some signature Prince moments, the funky jam brings a newer sound to Prince’s already massive catalog.
I’m not quite sure what “Funknroll” exactly is, but Prince’s new single makes me want to find out in a hurry. Prince recently confirmed that he will release two new records this year: a debut record from his new group 3rdEyeGirl, Plectrumelectrum, and a new solo LP, titled Art Official Age, the latter of which features the new single. All of the signature Prince elements are there, such as a key guitar section that acts as the launch pad for the song, but it also incorporates a newer element of electronic effects that blast the single into the outer reaches of the atmosphere. After debuting his newest band project at concert in Paisley Park Studios, the Prince of Purple has assembled his mighty band into the studio for what is sure to be a hot hit record. After putting together enough material to fill two full-length albums and performing at a recent Essence Festival this year, Prince has enough new material out to keep him on tour for many, many months, and we can’t wait to see what’s next from the legend.
