Donald Glover, also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, is an American actor, writer, comedian, rapper, and producer. He first came to attention for his work Derrick Comedy and became a writer for the NBC comedy series 30 Rock. He is best known for his role as a college student Troy Barnes on the NBC series Community.
After several self-released albums and mix tapes, Glover signed to Glassnote Records in 2011 as Childish Gambino. He released his album, Camp, on Glassnote Records later that year. His second studio album, Because the Internet, was released in December 2013. His most well known songs include, “Heartbeat,” “Bonfire,” “Bed Peace,” and “3005.” In June of 2014, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified “Heartbeat” Gold, making it Glover’s first certification. The next month, the RIAA also certified “3005” Gold.
The Huffington Post recently published a four part series titled, “Childish Gambino and the Metamodern Ennui: Why because the internet is the Most Significant Album in Recent History.” The article argues why Childish Gamino’s, Because the Internet, is one of the most important albums of the decade. They state, “he’s one of the most fascinating products of the Internet, how his awareness of that fact led him to craft one of the most culturally and artistically significant albums of the decade…”
